One thing I’ve learned in my 24 years of life is that change is inevitable. Fall always brings about some sort of change in my life. This year it’s my husband, Brian going to grad school part time. This has brought a few changes to our evening routine. One thing I always have to remind myself of, is change can be positive. This change will be really great and will provide Brian will a lot of great opportunities.
I often struggle dealing with changes, when my mother passed away when I was younger I had to deal with a lot of big changes. One bible verse that helped me deal with these changes was Malachi 3:6 which says: “For I the Lord do not change; therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed.” This verse has always been a comfort to me knowing that amidst all the changes I encounter one thing always remains the same.
This still doesn’t make dealing with change simple. When life changes, we often have to change and since we are often creatures of habit this can still be challenging. These are a few tips I use when I’m feeling stressed about upcoming changes:
- I remind myself God is in control. Proverbs 31:21 “She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.” I don’t have to worry about things that lay ahead because I am covered by the blood of Jesus!
- Tidy up your space. Sometimes things can feel overwhelming simply because of the clutter in our lives. Take a few minutes to clean off your kitchen counter, organize your closet or do some dishes. Its amazing how this can alleviate a little bit of that stress.
- Make some YOU time! For me this usually means a little bit of pampering. Do a hair mask or paint your nails.
- Carve out some time to laugh with a loved one. For Brian and I that usually means taking a few minutes to watch a few Jimmy Fallon clips (that guy cracks me up).
Hope you find a few of these tips to be helpful. Do you have any changes happening in your life this fall? How do you deal with them?
